SINISTER is a movie that asks us to watch Ethan Hawke watch movies, and it's often the most frightening aspect. So, in Fango’s brief time with the star, I
wanted to find out which of the Super 8 pictures got to him most?
Now that many of you have gone out and seen Scott Derrickson’s frequently spooky film, and had to squirm your way through an entire family being hanged in its opening minutes, a suburban brood tied to pool chairs and submerged, and another brutally stabbed in bed, it isn’t hard to imagine most audiences also found the found footage to be SINISTER’s most haunting moments.
“The things that I liked about them so much is that a lot of movies that have found footage, they’re all about trying to assert this incredibly high level of naturalism,” Hawke told FANGORIA. “Because these were all Super 8 movies, they had a real poetic vibe to them. It wasn’t that harsh reality. There was something almost elegiac about them all. They almost seemed beautiful, even though there are these horrible things that are happening. But the opening image of the movie is the worst. It’s just unbelievable.”
SINISTER is out now. Let us know which of the home movies kept you up below.
